Over 700 Indian Sikhs to visit Lahore for Guru Arjan Dev’s death anniversary

LAHORE, Jun 9 : Over 700 Sikh pilgrims from India are expected to arrive in Pakistan’s Lahore city on Wednesday to participate in events related to the death anniversary of the fifth Sikh Guru, Arjan Dev.

“The Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi has issued over 700 visas to Indian Sikh pilgrims to participate in the event to mark the death anniversary observances of Guru Arjan Dev Ji,” Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) spokesperson Ghulam Mohayuddin told PTI on Tuesday.

He said the annual commemorative ceremonies of the revered Sikh guru will be held in Lahore from June 10-19.

He added that around 500 Sikhs from India are also expected to come here later this month to observe the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

The main ceremony of the event marking Guru Arjan Dev’s death anniversary will be held at Gurdwara Dera Sahib, Lahore, on June 16.

Meanwhile, the ETPB officials reviewed arrangements at the Wagah Border for the reception and facilitation of Sikh pilgrims arriving from India on Wednesday.

At the meeting, officials also emphasised an uninterrupted power supply at the Wagah Border, the availability of backup generators, special cleanliness measures, and the provision of all necessary amenities.

The meeting was informed that the Federal Investigation Agency would establish 20 immigration counters to streamline and expedite the clearance process for the visiting pilgrims.

ETPB Additional Secretary Shrines Nasir Mushtaq said that all efforts are being made to ensure the provision of the best possible facilities for Sikh pilgrims. (PTI)
