JAMMU, Mar 6: Over 40,000 gun licenses were issued by the District Magistrates across the State in two years.
In reply to the question of PDP MLA, Javaid Mustafa Mir, Minister Incharge Home informed the Legislative Assembly that a total of 40,587 gun licenses have been issued during the years 2011 and 2012 in accordance with the procedure and the provisions laid down in the Arms Act, 1959 and the Arms Rules, 1962.
Maximum number of gun licenses were issued in Srinagar district (7769) followed by Doda (7605) and Shopian (7048). A total of 561 licenses have been issued in Udhampur, 4963 in Ramban, 159 in Jammu, 27 in Reasi, 1302 in Rajouri, 35 in Poonch, 556 in Samba, 9 in Kathua, 994 in Kishtwar, 193 in Baramulla, 12 in Anantnag, 2148 in Kulgam, 351 in Kupwara, 18 in Ganderbal, 41 in Budgam, 1026 in Pulwama, 799 in Kargil and 71 in Leh.
