Srinagar, June 19: Sumbal Sonawari of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district is reeling under darkness due to the absence of electricity for at least one week.
The locals of the area said that the concerned department has failed in repairing the electricity transformer which has been lying defunct at their workshop after repeated requests.
They said that the department is not taking their grievance seriously and is letting the population suffer for unknown reasons.
They alleged that the concerned authorities have completely failed in restoring the electric supply in the sub-division.
With recently grown paddy in need of water supply, the locals said that their livelihood is at stake as their paddy land is facing acute shortage of water supply due to the absence of electricity.
“We eat dinner under candles light; it is not even imaginable in the 21st century; the concerned authorities continue to take the issue lightly. Today, they will pacify us with one reason and tomorrow with something else; nobody is taking us seriously,” the locals said.
Locals alleged that the officials of the department did not even bother to visit the area and take stock of the situation.
The local population has appealed the Chief Engineer, PDD Kashmir, and the Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora to intervene into the matter and get their issue resolved as soon as possible.
