KATHUA, Dec 24: A man died when a car he was driving skidded off and fell into Kashmir canal at Sawan Chak near here, today.
“A car (JK14B-3233) this morning fell into a Kashmir canal at Sawan Chack in which the driver died on the spot,” police here said.
The deceased was identified as Police Constable, Arun Raina, resident of Tara Nagar, Hatli Morh, Kathua.
Police led by SHO Kathua Devinder Singh and locals launched the rescue operation while with the help of JCB, the car was taken out of the water.
“The driver died on the spot,” police said adding that the body was shifted to the hospital and will be handed over to the family after legal formalities.
Meanwhile a person committed suicide by hanging himself in his residence at Chack Darab Khan. The deceased was identified as Rattan Chand, 42, R/O Chak Darab Khan, Kathua. The police shifted the body to District Hospital Kathua for post-mortem. The Kathua police has registered a case in this regard.
