One killed, 47 injured as bus rolls down

UDHAMPUR, Feb 5: In a major road accident, 47 passengers were injured and a pedestrian died when a bus rolled down into a deep gorge at Barta, in between Chanunta and Udhampur, here this morning.
The accident took place around 9.45 am and the ill fated bus, bearing registration number  JK02D-3815, was on its way from Chanunata to Udhampur when it rolled down around 20 feet deep near Barta.
While all the passengers sustained serious injuries but survived, a pedestrian on the roadside was hit by the somersaulting bus and died on the spot. He was identified as Madan Lal (41) son of Bali Ram of Barta.
On getting the information, Police rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. All the  injured were shifted to Primary Health Centre Chanuntha where doctors referred maximum patients to District Hospital Udhampur in view of serious injuries.
Bus driver Gopal Krishan (36), son of Ram Lal of Sar Manjla, was further shifted to Government Medical College Hospital.

Those admitted at  PHC Chanunta, included Bittu (14) son of Taru of Sar Manjla, Kuldeep (35) son of Kapoor, Ravi son of Gulha, Yashpal  son of Krishan, Gopal son of Mangu Ram, and Tara Chand, all resident  of Chanunata.
