JAMMU, June 20: One person was killed and two others were critically injured today in a major road accident at Narwal where a truck trailer laden with drums of tarcoal hit and severely damaged several vehicles after its brakes allegedly got failed.
Quoting eyewitnesses, police sources said that a truck trailer (bearing registration number PB03 AB-9466) loaded beyond its capacity hit eight vehicles including two tankers, one load carrier and five cars near Fruit Market Narwal and one man standing beside his car parked along the road. “The accident occurred around 12:30 PM due to alleged failure of brakes of the truck trailer,” they said, adding, three persons including truck trailer driver received critical injuries in the accident while as eight vehicles – two tankers bearing registration numbers JK02AU-4525 & JK02AJ-2793, one Santro car (JK02AR-5172), one Honda City car (JK02CJ-3188), one Tata Tiago car (JK02BE-4574), one i10 car (JK02AL-6760), one auto load carrier (JK02BV-6429) and an Alto car (JK02AR- 4086) were severely damaged.
Sources said that all the injured namely Hajara Singh of Punjab (truck trailer driver), auto driver Darshan Lal (55) son of Dhani Ram, resident of Talab Tillo (Jammu) and Sanjay Kumar Gandotra (51) son of Subhash Chander, resident of Trikuta Nagar were immediately rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu from where family members of Sanjay Kumar took him to Amritsar but he died on the way.
Incharge police post, Narwal, Vikas Jasrotia said that the reason of the accident is yet to be ascertained but there is high probability that it may have happened due to failure of brakes of the truck trailer.
He said one person has succumbed to his injuries while on the way to a Hospital in Amritsar while condition of two others was stated to be stable and they were responding to the treatment.
“A case under relevant sections has been registered in this connection at police station Trikuta Nagar and further investigation started,” the officer said, adding, the body of the deceased has been sent for postmortem.
