JAMMU : Chief Minister Abdullah has proposed to scrap the controversial ‘New Recruitment Policy’ (NRP) at a Cabinet meeting scheduled to be held tomorrow at Srinagar.
In the backdrop of debacle of National Conference(NC) in the recently concluded Lok Sabha Polls, the Chief Minister had sought suggestions from a common man on the personal email ID ‘gupkar@gmail.com’ following which the decision was taken to scrap the New Recruitment Policy.
“I am bringing a proposal to the State Cabinet tomorrow and I’m proposing to scrap the ‘New Recruitment Policy’ with immediate effect, ” Mr Abdullah wrote on micro-blogging site ‘The Twitter’.
“This is based on feedback that I’ve received from countless youth spread across the length and breadth of the State over last the two days,” he wrote and said there will be similar corrective steps announced over the days and weeks ahead covering various facets of Government services.
The Chief Minister further wrote, “I’m deeply touched & humbled. 100’s of emails with amazing feedback & suggestions. I’m reading each one myself & responding to them.”
He however, appealed to the people to bear with him and said, “1700+ emails still to be read. I’ve read and acknowledged 100’s. Bear with me, I’ll read and acknowledge all.”
‘New Recruitment Policy’ was approved by the State Cabinet in 2011 according to which new appointees for Class-III and Class-IV posts were paid fixed monthly salary equivalent to 50 per cent of the basic pay (Pay Band + Grade Pay) for the first two years.
For the next three years or during the remaining period out of the total five years, the employee would be entitled to receive fixed salary of about 75 percent of the basic pay.
In 2011, the State High Court had stayed implementation of the ‘New Recruitment Policy’ introduced by the State Government in 2010, but the stay was later vacated by the Court. (AGENCIES)
