OGW network of HM busted in Awantipora, 4 arrested

Rs 10 lakh, ammunition recovered

SRINAGAR, Oct 9: Security forces today busted an Over Ground Workers (OGWs) module of Hizbul Mujahideen by arresting its four members and recovered over Rs 10 lakh from their possession which they were tasked by the militants to use for strengthening of the support structure and luring youth into militancy.
Police in Awantipora received a reliable information that a Hizbul Mujahideen militant Adil Ahmad Bhat of Malangpora Pulwama has handed over a huge amount of money to an OGW of the outfit, Rouf-ul-Islam Wani son of Abdul Aziz Wani of Batpora Ladhoo Khrew, for its distribution among other militants and OGWs for carrying out militant activities in the area and strengthening of its support network and making recruitments in the area.
Police immediately registered (FIR No. 75/2018 U/S 17,18, 20, 21, 38, 39 and 40 ULA (P) Act at police station Khrew) and investigations started into the matter.
Police said that during the investigation, Rouf-ul-Islam Wani was apprehended and he disclosed that he had received huge cash from Adil for its distribution among other militants and OGWs of HM outfit for raising the necessary support structure for the Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and also for luring youth towards joining militant ranks.
Police said Wani disclosed that the cash amount was handed over to Mohammad Maqbool Wani son of Ghulam Qadir Wani, resident of Batapora Ladhoo, Shakeel Ahmad Wani son of Ghulam Mohammad Wani, resident of Ladhoo and Musaib Aziz Gojree son of Abdul Aziz, resident of Namblabal Pampore, the OGWs of HM.
He said that all the 3 OGWs were also apprehended and subsequently cash amounts were recovered at four different places. “The investigation conducted so far revealed that the amount so recovered was intended to be used for the purpose of terrorism. Further investigation is in progress”, he added.
Sources said that cash amounting to Rs 10 lakh were recovered from their possession besides some rounds of ammunition. The amount was recovered from these OGWs and they had not distributed it yet. They said that the police is conducting further investigations to look into the other possible beneficiaries of the amount that was sent by militants.
And in the meantime, several gun shots were heard from Beigh Mohalla in Buchoo area of Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district after security forces cordoned it off this evening.
Army’s 42 RR, Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF cordoned off Baigh Mohalla in Tral after inputs about presence of militants in the village. As the cordon was being laid, few gun shots were heard but it was not clear whether they were fired by militants or were probing shots fired by security forces.
