NREGA staff extends strike upto Aug 27

JAMMU, Aug 22: National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), Scheme workers have extended their strike for the next five more days up to August 27.
A spokesman of the MG-NREGA Employees Association today said that their ongoing strike has been extended for the next five working days as the State Administration has not responded to their plea. They said that thousands of workers have been engaged under MG-NREGA Scheme for the last 10-15 years in J&K, but remarks of the J&K Chief Secretary with regard to throwing them out has caused strong resentment and uncertainty about their future. The Govt must clear its stand over the issue, otherwise the workers would come out on the roads and intensify their agitation, the spokesman added.
