Congress tonight brushed aside speculation that it was in talks about Government formation with erstwhile ally PDP in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The speculations are baseless and far from truth. I can’t understand why such misinformation is being spread and what for,” senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad said here.
Talking to reporters here, Azad again made it clear that the visit of Congress President Sonia Gandhi to Srinagar yesterday was only to share the grief of Mehbooba Mufti over the tragic loss of Mufti Mohammed Sayeed.
“One should not forget the long association of Sayeed with Congress and his proximity to Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi as well as Sonia Gandhi,” he said.
Azad said the meeting had nothing to do with formation of any new coalition in the State.
The senior Congress leader expressed hope that the speculation are put to rest once and for all.
Sayeed breathed his last at the AIIMS in Delhi last week after remaining hospitalised for a fortnight.
Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi also sought to quell the speculation.
Linking any such thing with the Gandhi’s condolence visit is really completely mixing up the issue and called it a “hypothetical” question.
“To ask the question when a condolence visit is made by the Congress President to the head of the party who has lost her father, who apart from being her father, was a very eminent leader in that State is to really completely mixing up issue.
“Even to answer your question would be a transgression on my part because I would lead credence to the basic assumption underlying your question.
“Therefore, please ask your question, if and when they arise on the factual context, I am neither here to lower the gravity of a condolence visit nor here to answer hypothetical questions,” Singhvi said. (PTI)
