Srinagar, June 7: Government today said there was no proposal under consideration of the Government to modify existing rules/ policies under SRO- 199.
In a written reply to a question of MLA Mohammad Khalil Band in Lower House, the Minister Incharge GAD said that Next of Kins of the deceases killed in the militancy related incidents were earlier given appointment under SRO-43, but the policy was modified in the year 2008, notified vide SRO-199 dated July 4, 2008 due to number of reasons.
“Some of the NOKs of the deceased were not found eligible for appointments, some were not keen to take Government service and sometimes the number of NOKs seeking Government job was higher,” the Minister stated.
The Minister stated that Government has amended the SRO-43 and invoked the provision that the family member of the civilian killed in militancy related incidents involving relaxation in age and or qualification, is entitled for payment of cash compensation of rupees four lakhs in lieu of appointment.
“However, those NOKs of the deceased who fulfil the eligibility criteria for appointment in the Government service at the time of death of the deceased or acquire such eligibility within five years from the date of death of the deceased have the option either to take Government job or the cash compensation, provided that the family has applied for the benefit within the mandatory period of one year from the date of death of the deceased,” the Minister stated.
