Politics of below the average standard is hitting the governance at the centre. With the term of UPA2 coming to its full term in less than 100 days, more confusion, chaos and disarray is seen in the Government. The value of the vote of the people is grossly trivialized and a situation seems precarious when the Head of the government, constitutionally supposed to be all powerful – the Prime Minister of this country, the largest democracy of the world, is just watching as a mute spectator. From governance the disarray travels into what is called our highest seat of democracy, the Parliament – when some cabinet Ministers troop into the well and indulge in disruptions, and do not allow their own Railway Minister to even read the text of the Railway budget. The PM does not dismiss them as he believes in things other than asserting himself as the PM. Just see what the government could not do with the Telangana issue all these “golden” years of two terms of 5 years each, is now seeking to rush through in the shape of a bill in the Parliament. The UPA2 government wants to get the credit of one “more achievement” of its performance by creation of Telangana and en-cash it in the form of votes later, thus is obfuscating efforts of all sorts to get it passed in the Parliament in its last session, paying no heed to agitations and protests by some MPs including Congress Party’s own MPs and even three of its cabinet ministers. The drop scene of the drama takes place in Parliament unheard of in its bizarre and all time low grade, on 13TH instant watched by the countrymen and 46 countries live. Fisticuffs, uprooting of mikes, whipping out knife or knife like sharp object were used in the “attack” on democracy and as if this all was not sufficient to bring shame on our polity and on our projection, pungent pepper spray was gassed into the august House resulting in physical ailments , suffocations and inconveniences to many members. While watching a live TV debate in the evening on the unfortunate incident, more than one member on the panel and who had reportedly watched it all live, revealed that stories made rounds right from the morning of the unfortunate day in the history of Parliamentary proceedings, that some one from the “aggrieved” lot on Telangana issue could indulge in a bid to commit self immolation and other means of no dignity to lodge protest and prevent the bill to be passed in the House. It is a natural corollary that the government of Dr. Manmohan Singh was in know of these plans , no frisking or any sort of pre-emptive measures were taken resulting in the pandemonium of its lowest ever, which the Speaker termed as “shamed the country” and “a blot”. Even through all this shame and blots, the government claims that they have introduced the bill despite all opposition; the opposition totally rejects the government’s contention terming it a joke, a mockery. Not only this where the outgoing government stops, it has in its itinerary of getting the “dream bills on corruption” three in a row, to get passed into acts to fulfill the ambitions of one person in the top most hierarchy of Congress Party.
In other words, it appears that looking to its poorest management of the floor of the Parliament , the ruckus becoming the order of the day surprisingly also by its own members , the Congress led coalition wants to go ahead vain fully expecting co-operation from the opposition benches in the name of “fight against the corruption”. The intriguing riddle is that the think tank in the Party has perhaps not advised it just to get the vote on account passed as also the Rail (interim) budget passed so that the functioning of the apparatus does not get affected and call it a day and wait for the next verdict of the people. Was it expected by the illustrious leaders of this Party that such days were in store for this Party that a very senior leader of the Party and the present Congress Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh can take a contemptuous dig at the Prime Minister ridiculing his statement of “heart bleeds” on the disruptions in the Parliament and that hearts of “crores of Telugu people are bleeding because of undemocratic acts of the Centre”. So Dr. Manmohan Singh has been certified as undemocratic and feigning bleeding of heart by no less than one of the senior most Congress leaders of the country.
What has happened to the quality of Politics in the country which seems rife with opportunism, muscle, money, nepotism, arrogance, hooliganism, very frequent ruckus in state legislative assemblies even to the extent of flinging of chairs, microphones, shouting, counter shouting, not allowing the constitutional Heads even to read out the inaugural address compelling to leave the House half way and then indulge in all sorts of blame games inter-se? Who is bothered to care for our immediate concerns and interests of the country? Young Nido is beaten to death and dramas are enacted. Delhi CM sits on Dharna at Jantar Mantar, Congress Vice President too sits in Dharna , Andhra Congress CM too sits in dharna , not to speak of the opposition Parties but the question is who is sitting in protest against whom? Nido’s death is a law and problem issue, both the Delhi and Central government authorities are sitting in Dharnas instead of taking action. What type of confusion is created and why? Inefficiency in governance is attempted to get disguised and plunged in a state of haze by taking refuge under “Dharnas”. What a hypocrisy? Both the accused Parliamentarians, one of pepper spray and the other of brandishing a knife ( “No- I broke a mike and its rod looked as a knife in my hand” ) are young politicians. Congress Vice President is young, Kejriwal is young, Akhilesh Yadav is young, MNS Chief is young, most of the suspended law makers are young, isn’t the Political experiment with such “young” proving all against expectations? At least, seniors in age could never attempt to indulge in such unwanted “brave feats” . The nation has to think seriously.
Defaulters of payment of electricity dues are rewarded by writing off or halving their dues and without any penalties only because they, numbering nearly 25000, lent support to acts of lawbreaking of AAP leader now called “Satyagrah” by re- connecting disconnected supply of power, unauthorized climbing on poles , tearing of electric bills openly but in front of media to get full publicity and those ones in Delhi are rueing for sincerely paying their dues , for being law respecting and honest. People are motivated to default. Why should the leadership of AAP pay the exempted dues totaling over Rs.6 crores not from their personal assets and income instead of from peoples’ tax money? What a paradox?
Now, in run up to general elections a few weeks away, talks and preparations are on by 14 or odd political parties, mostly regional, to what they call formation of a Non- BJP , Non Congress Front , call it Third Front, Federal Front or with any name. They are very much “eager” to provide strength to secularism and “defeat communal elements” by replacing UPA2 at the centre. Governance or service of the public, the economic development and growth are not their priorities but to “fight forces of communalism”, an imagination of a fear which they want to implant deep especially among the minorities. They have no policy on Economics, no policy on Terrorism, no programme of employment generation, no policy to fight cyber war threat looming large, no policy on how to curb over population, no policy on how to identify and deport illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, no plans to settle the problem of refugees and displaced people in the state of Jammu and Kashmir etc. Now if they manage to get just 180 or 200 and the Congress nearly 100 as the latest sample poll surveys suggest, the BJP mustering nearly 200 plus and even emerge as the largest seat winning party, then the non- Congress, non- BJP Front will become only “non BJP Front” and take support from Congress which shall rule the country now by proxy. Governance shall suffer, people shall suffer. Growth and employment shall plummet further, inflation shall rise further resulting in instability in the country. Instability per – se cannot be afforded any longer. Hence the people in their wisdom are expected to vote for stability and vote to power just one political Party. It could be Congress, BJP, Communists or any one with workable majority. No coalitions, Fronts not in the least.
