NHRC issues directions to Home Ministry on KPs

JAMMU, Nov 3: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued directives to Secretary Union Ministry of Home Affairs that the complaint received by it in respect of Kashmiri Pandits filed by Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo a Human Rights activist be transmitted to concerned authority for appropriate action and the action be taken within eight weeks after the receipt of the communication.
The NHRC, while forwarding the complaint to Secretary, Home Ministry directed him that the complainant and victim be associated with the action taken by the concerned authority and they may also be informed about the action taken in the matter.
The NHRC in a communiqué to Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, Human Rights Defender, has also informed him that it has formally registered a case under o. 204/9/0/2020 on the complaint regarding Kashmiri Pandits filed by him.
It needs to be mentioned that the complainant filed this case in addition to a joint case in connection with the security of Sarpanchs alongwith Vijay Raina, Sarpanch. The main complainant submitted before the NHRC that it was almost after six years of the first memorandum submitted in 1994, that the NHRC delivered its final decision on the core issue of “genocide” of the Kashmiri Pandits maintaining in its order that “the Commission is constrained to observe that acts akin to Genocide have occurred in respect of the Kashmiri Pandits.
Chrungoo has demanded establishing a ‘Special Crimes Tribunal’ to investigate the crimes against humanity committed in regard to the minorities of Jammu and Kashmir, including Hindus and Sikhs over the last 35 years.
He has also plead that the memorandum be considered as a formal complaint against the Government of J&K and also against the GoI and the NHRC be made a party as the negotiating adviser on the issue of the constitution of “Special Crimes Tribunal”.
