POONCH, Jan 15: Residents of Tehsil Mandi are up in arms against the authorities upon the dilapidated condition of New Bus Stand road at Mandi town and failure of the R&B Department to maintain the road.
The road which is often water loddged and specially during rainy days, is completely in shambles and despite repeated pleas, the concerned department has failed to undertake any repair works. It is rough and lying unattended with the result commuters are facing huge inconvenience due to this potholed road stretch.
Headquaters Mandi Sarpanch Mubassar Banday said that he has requested several times to the concerned officers to take up repair work but no body bothers. “For the last many years PWD authorities Poonch have never done macdamization work on the road and they have even failed to repair the dilapidated road stretches in the area,” Bandey added.
A local shopkeeper said, ” Several minor mishaps have occurred on these roads and many people have suffered grievous injuries and the concerned authorities have turned blind eye towards the issue”.
“You can see potholes everywhere and dirty water logged in potholes but nothing has changed despite repeated attempts by the locals,” the locals stated, adding that the bad condition of the road has caused many accidents.
Expressing concern and shock over the condition of roads here, they said that roads of the area are posing danger to life of people. They also claimed that they wrote a letter as well as met with concerned authorities including officers of concerned deptt but all in vain.
In addition, the choked drains emanate foul smell and spread numerous diseases and now that the rainy season has set in the problem has been multiplied, making them difficult to breathe in such environment.
They have appealed to the DDC Poonch to take cognizance of this issue and direct the concerned department to wake from deep slumber.
