JAMMU, Aug 27: The National Conference today held a high level political meeting in Srinagar in which political situation and electoral strategy of the party was reviewed threadbare.
The meeting, which was chaired by Chief Minister and National Conference working president Omar Abdullah was held at Hari Niwas and it lasted two hours.
Party insiders told the Excelsior that the National Conference top brass discussed the strategy for forthcoming Assembly elections including names of candidates for remaining Assembly seats. The name of seat, which Chief Minister Omar Abdullah would contest, was also discussed in the meeting, they said.
The NC’s relations with its coalition partner, the Congress, were also reviewed in the meeting. Both the coalition partners have not been keeping good relations, which had led to cancellation of Co-ordination Committee meeting and delay in holding the Cabinet meeting.
The meeting was attended by senior National Conference leaders including NC general secretary and Rural Development Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar, Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather, Transport and CAPD Minister Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan, Member of Parliament Mohammad Shafi Uri, Provincial President Kashmir Nasir Aslam Wani and Provincial President Jammu Devender Singh Rana besides various other senior party leaders.
The NC working president and senior party leaders discussed the political situation within the State and in the country and also deliberated upon various recent developments. The party leaders also apprised Omar of various steps that are being taken to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.
Omar discussed the party’s preparedness and plan of action for the forthcoming Assembly elections and asked the party leaders to work in close contact with the party cadre in all three regions of the State.
The NC leaders also discussed various policies and issues concerning the common-man and reiterated NC’s commitment to work tirelessly for the welfare and prosperity of the people of J&K. The National Conference leaders also reiterated the need to nurture and follow the tradition, ethos and ideology of the party and its founder Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah who gave numerous sacrifices to safeguard the rights and dignity of his people.
Omar said the party was bound in its commitment to uphold the values and ideals passed on to them by Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.
