NC expresses concern over plight of stranded students

SRINAGAR, Mar 22: National Conference (NC) has expressed concern over the plight of students left stranded outside J&K following the closure of educational institutions across the country.
In a statement, issued here, today party spokesperson, Imran Nabi Dar while raising the woes of students studying in different parts of the country said, “we have been receiving distress calls from students stranded in various universities across the country who want to come home but do not have the means to do so. Owing to the mass closures of educational institutions and libraries many students find themselves in limbo. Most don’t have the resources to come back to their homes as railways and other inter State transport network have suspended their operations in wake of the spread of COVID-19.”
He further said, “students who are calling us are beset with anxiety, and want to unite with their families. What is the Government doing for such students? Government needs to act swiftly and bring their men and machinery in action to help such students who are facing shortage of money and food. Kashmiris studying in Hyderabad University have been asked to vacate university premises. They don’t have enough money left to come back to Kashmir by air. There are similar stories emanating from other parts of the country”, he added.
He urged the Government to come to rescue of such students stranded in various universities, colleges of the country. “Special nodal officers should be deputed to look after the repatriation of all these students back to J&K. Government should also consider bringing them back through special flights. The need of the hour calls for holistic approach and coming up with special points of contact all over the country,” he said.
