RAJOURI, Dec 11: Senior National Conference leaders on Wednesday described as mischievous the attempts being made by Bharatiya Janata Party to create fissures between different communities and sects of Jammu and Kashmir, saying that sectarian divide is a sinister plan to pollute the harmonious atmosphere of the State.
“Narendra Modi made a conscious bid to rake up sectarian issues during his recent visit to Jammu in order to trample our unity that is a big obstacle in his scheme of things and furthering communal agenda”, Minister for Planning and Development Ajay Kumar Sadhotra and Provincial President Devender Singh Rana said while addressing a day long party delegates convention of Rajouri and Darhal constitencies this afternoon.
Mr Rana assailed the Gujarat Chief Minister for his provocative posturing and said the emergence of such elements is threat to the secular fabric and unity of the country. “Time has come when people, irrespective of religion, region or caste, will have to stand and fight the fascist forces”, he added.
The Provincial President also referred to Narendra Modi’s rhetoric on Article 370 of Indian Constitution and advised him to stop day dreaming about its abrogation. He said this special provision is a bridge between Jammu and Kashmir and rest of the country and any attempt to weaken it will be detrimental to the national interest.
Mr Rana warned BJP not to take cue from their Prime Ministerial candidate and disturb the amity and brotherhood of the State. “They have failed to achieve this malicious agenda in 2008 and are destined to meet a similar fate till National Conference exists”, he said amid big applause.
The Provincial President urged the people to remain vigilant against the machinations of the parties like BJP and PDP, the main agenda of which is to polarise the situation and benefit from division in the society. He said their main plank during the ensuing elections will be to promote such an atmosphere.
While predicting total annihilation of PDP well before 2014 elections, he said the main contest in the Jammu region will be between National Conference and BJP. “In 70 per cent seats of the region, the contest will be between NC and BJP”, he observed while exuding confidence that National Conference will triumph with flying colours.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sadhotra described PDP and BJP two sides of the same coin and said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir will give these divisive forces a befitting reply in the ensuing elections to Lok Sabha and Assembly. He said while BJP was raking up communal card in the Jammu region, PDP was unsuccessfully trying to play divisive politics in the Kashmir Valley.
Mr Sadhotra also dwelt on the initiatives taken for inclusive development of the state and said coordinated efforts are being made to implement various schemes and programme aimed at ameliorating the lot of the people. He expected continued support of people in implementing developmental agenda and assured that all necessary measures are being taken to meet developmental requirements of the border areas.
Kr Rachpal Singh, MLA and Central Secretary, Vice President National Conference and former Minister, Peer Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari and Senior National Conference leader and former MP Mirza Abdul Rasheed also spoke on the occasion.
