JAMMU, June 5: Provincial unit of the National Conference (Jammu) has demanded probe by a sitting High Court judge into the killing of a youth in police firing in Jammu and appealed the people to maintain peace and communal harmony in the region.
Addressing joint press conference, Provincial president of the party Devender Singh Rana (MLA) and other senior leaders Harbans Singh (former Minister), MLA Dr Kamal Arora, Gurdeep Singh Sasan, T S Tony and Surinder Singh Bunty expressed serious concern over the incident in which a youth of the minority community was killed in police firing near Ranibagh in Jammu on Thursday. These leaders alleged that it was total administrative failure and lack of experience on the part of new Government, which failed to control a minor incident.
“There is no Government and governance at all. It is total executive and political failure which resulted into turning situation in peaceful Jammu as volatile. The people of Jammu during migration from Doda areas and Kashmir offered space to the migrants from different communities, displaying great example of communal harmony and brotherhood. This small incident could have been avoided and contained, if the administration had responded to the occasion appropriately,” they maintained.
It shows lack of experience on the part of Government. It seems that Government and even the local political leaders are not well connected with the people. Those responsible for killing the youth, the only earning hand in the family, should be brought to book and a probe be conducted into the whole episode, through a sitting High Court judge.
The NC leaders expressed sympathy with the bereaved family and demanded a Govt job for a member of the deceased’s family and adequate compensation for them. The leaders issued appeal to the people to maintain peace and communal harmony.
