JAMMU, Aug 23: The staging of comedy play ‘Saiyan Bhaye Kotwal’ written by Vasant Sabnis and directed by Balwant Thakur here today marked the culmination of 4th Natrang Theatre Festival-2018.
Ramesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Natrang Director, Balwant Thakur dwelt in detail about the journey of Natrang’s 35 eventful years.
The play ‘Saiyan Bhaye Kotwal’ opens at a kingdom ‘Surya Nagar’ whose king is busy in hunting and foreign tours and the functionaries of his government are busy in making the best use of his absence. Kotwal (police chief) of the kingdom dies and the king authorizes the Prime Minister to appoint a suitable person at his place. Hawaldar was waiting for the last ten years for Kotwal to die gets a big setback when Prime Minister appoints his own brother-in-law to the post. Under a conspiracy the Hawaldar traps the new Kotwal in fake love of a court singer who gets royal things from him (Kotwal) for her love. The king comes to know this only when his royal bed gets missing. A caricature of the bad governance has been beautifully depicted in the play.
