RAJOURI, Nov 11: The Post Graduate Department of Information Technology, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri, organized a seminar to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, which has been declared as National Education Day.
Vice Chancellor of the University Prof I A Hamal was chief guest on the occasion. He exhorted the students and teachers of the university to follow the foot prints of Maulana Azad. He also spoke in length about the prevailing education system in India and the world.
Paying tribute, Prof Hamal said that Azad is remembered as amongst the leading Indian nationalists of his time and his firm belief in Hindu-Muslim. His work for education and social upliftment in India made him an important influence in guiding India’s economic and social development, Prof Hamal said, adding that Azad’s personality can be gauged from the fact that Jawaharlal Nehru referred to him as Mir -i- Karawan (the caravan leader) and Mahatma as a person of the calibre of Plato and Aristotle.
Tasleem Arif, Head PG Department of Information Technology, threw light on the life and teachings of Maulana Azad. A number of participants, both from students and teaching community of the university, delivered their talks on the life of Maulana Azad and theme for the day. “Science & Society” is the theme for “National Education Day” this year.
Col K K Dogra, Principal University Polytechnic and Director Centre for Biodiversity Studies BA Wafai along with various faculty members of Computer Sciences, Management, Information Technology and mathematics spoke on the occasion.
Prof A K Koul, Dean Academic Affairs, BGSBU, Prof S K Gupta, HoD of Management Studies, Mohammed Ishaq, Controller of Examinations, Suneet Gupta, SS to Vice Chancellor, heads of various teaching departments, officers of the university and a number of students attended the seminar.
