National award to NHPC for meritorious performance

NEW DELHI, Feb 4: NHPC has been awarded Gold shield under National Award for meritorious performance in Power Sector.
Jyotiraditya M Scindia, Union Minister of State for Power (Independent Charge) presented the Gold shield to NHPC under category “Early Completion of Hydro Power Projects” for its 231 MW Chamera-III Hydroelectric Project at a ceremony held here today at Vigyan Bhawan.
This award for the year 2012-13 has been given to Chamera-III Hydroelectric Project for the early completion of its Unit 3 (77 MW).
The award has been given on the basis of evaluation carried out by Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
The award was received by JK Sharma, Director (Projects), NHPC and AK Malhotra, General Manager of Chamera-III.
PK Sinha, Secretary (Power), Government of India and Neerja Mathur, Chairperson, CEA were also present on the occasion.
Commissioned in July 2012, the 231 MW Chamera-III is a run of river scheme on river Ravi in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. The project is designed to generate 1104 Million Units annually in a 90% dependable year. The project is a fine example of attaining a massive engineering feat while facing challenging weather conditions, flashfloods and geological surprises.
