JAMMU, Jan 14: In connection with the Parkash Utsav of Guru Gobind Singh ji, impressive Nagar-Kirtan was taken out by the Sikh Sangat in Poonch and Nowshera towns today.
Reports from Poonch said that on the eve of Gurpurab which falls on January 16, a large number Sikh community members under the guidance of Mahant Manjit Singh ji of Dera Nangali Sahib, Assembled at Singh Sabha Gurdwara at Poonch this morning and then took out Nagar Kirtan. Impressive Shobha Yatra was taken out in the city by the devotees from Poonch and adjoining nearly a dozen villages.
Decorated in traditional dress, `Panj Payaras’ were leading the religious procession taken out in various markets of the city. A large number of women and children also participated in the programme. Enroute and also at Degree College ground many Sikh youth displayed martial art/ Gatka skills. The devotees were chanting devotional songs in praise of the great Guru. After passing though different routes and markets, the Shobha Yatra culminated at Gurdwara Singh Sabha in the afternoon. The programme was held under the supervision of DGPC Poonch. The district administration had made elaborated security arrangements.
Meanwhile, another impressive Nagar- Kirtan was taken out at Nowshera in district Rajouri today. The DGPC Rajouri organised this grand Shobha Yatra in which the devotees from various villages of the area participated with great enthusiasm and religious fervour.
The devotees were raising religious slogans and also chanting devotional songs in praise of Guru Gobind Singh ji and his sacrifices for the humanity. Panj Piyare led the procession. Gatka parties from Nowshera, Sunderbani and Jammu participated in the programme and displayed their skills. DGPC members including Bhopinder Singh Tiger supervised the programme. MLA Nowshera Ravinder Raina, DyCEO Nowshera Ravinder Singh, President Gurdwara Chhati Padshahi Nowshera Baljeet Singh also spoke and greeted the Sikh Sangat on this occasion.
