JAMMU, June 4: The officials of Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) allegedly ”misbehaved” with the school children and staff from Rajasthan and also reportedly thrashed the driver in Kathua , who were on way towards Katra town to pay obeisance at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine.
“With an impression that the school buses especially carrying children on tour to the State from across the country are exempted from taxes at Lakhanpur Toll Plaza in Kathua, the bus driver did not stop at the MVD Check Post,” an eyewitness here said.
He said that the officials of MVD chased the bus and stopped it few metres away.
“Instead of listening the fate, the officials started ”misbehaving” and using ”abusive” language with the staff and kids,” said an eyewitness adding that one of the officials also slapped the driver.
He said that the driver with tears rolling down, rather than proceeding towards Jammu, decided to return back to Rajasthan.
“It is unfortunate if such an incident has happened,” Parvez Iqbal-Transport Commissioner told media.
Iqbal said, “Lakhanpur is a gateway to Jammu and Kashmir and such kind of incidents, can send wrong messages and impressions outside world.”
He said, “I have spoken to the Regional Transport Commissioner and sought the details into the incident.”
“If anybody is at fault or committed any wrong will not be spared. Enquiry will be ordered and stern action will be taken against those officials,” said the Transport Commissioner.
However, the students rued the behaviour of the MVD officials asserting that if they were welcomed like this to the State then how they would be treated further.
They also quoted the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statements on boosting tourism in the country but termed the incident ”unfortunate”.
