Movement Kalki raises questions over illegal encroachments, liquor policy

JAMMU, May 23: Movement Kalki today raised their concern over the ongoing anti-encroachment drive in Jammu city, illegal occupation of Government land and the liquor policy in Jammu & Kashmir.
The questions in this regard were raised by the organization’s Advisor Pritam Sharma in a press conference held here today.
Addressing the media, Sharma stated that strict action against illegal encroachments on forest land, agricultural land, Jammu Tawi river land and other government properties is necessary.
The organization emphasized that water, land, and forests should not be illegally occupied by anyone.
He asked whether local legislators and concerned departments had become so incapable that illegal occupations continued for years while the administration remained silent.
Movement Kalki also stated that if the government genuinely wishes to rehabilitate needy families, it should first develop proper colonies and legally settle deserving people so that such issues do not arise again in the future.
Sharma raised serious concerns regarding the growing drug problem and liquor policy in Jammu & Kashmir.
He said that while the Government is aggressively running anti-drug campaigns, liquor has been kept outside the discussion despite the fact that alcohol has destroyed lakhs of families.
Sharma questioned whether the Government does not consider alcohol an intoxicant and if it does, then why there is no strict policy against its increasing spread.
The organization also pointed out that political parties raise protests against liquor in Kashmir, but remain silent on the same issue in Jammu.
Movement Kalki questioned the reason behind this double standard and demanded clarity from the authorities.
In conclusion, Movement Kalki demanded a review of the liquor policy, closure of liquor shops near religious and educational institutions and the implementation of a strong and uniform policy to genuinely make Jammu & Kashmir drug-free.
Among others who were present during the conference included Someshwar Kohli, Board Members Dr. Sudesh Kumar, Mamta Devi, Antu Kotwal, Sunita Kundal, Dr Sushil Bhola, Gokul Sharma, Vikram Mahajan, Satpal Hindu, Raj Kumar Sharma and Anil Arora.
