NEW DELHI, Mar 21: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh said here today that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has united the world through Yoga and at the same time, also brought the world closer to India through Yoga.
Dr Jitendra Singh was speaking as chief guest, after inaugurating the three-day  “International YOGA FEST 2018”, in which delegates from more than 16 countries are participating.
It was a rare instance in the history of UNO, Dr Jitendra Singh said that nations from across the world, notwithstanding their ideological and political views, came forward to unanimously accept Prime Minister Modi’s proposal to observe International Day of Yoga. In doing so, India under PM Modi had actually vindicated itself for a lapse of over 60 years after independence.
Yoga today, Dr Jitendra Singh said, has not only brought the rest of the world closer to India but it has also generated across the world, a curiosity to learn and understand, more and more, about the rich ancient heritage and civilization of India.  To that extent, Yoga today, has emerged as India’s gift for unification of the global world, he added.
Giving credit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dr Jitendra singh said, it was only in the present Government that an exclusive separate Ministry of AYUSH was set up, which is dedicated to the promotion and application of alternative oriental streams of medicine along with Allopathy and other streams of medicine.
Referring to the importance of Yoga as a therapy in clinical medicine, Dr Jitendra Singh said, for example in a metabolic disorder like Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Yoga can ensure better control of Blood Sugar levels and in several situations, it can also bring down the dose of anti-diabetic drugs or Insulin to a considerable extent. Thus, he said, Yoga has a role, both in curative as well as preventive therapy, as also a a catalyst or an adjuvant.
In a nutshell, Dr Jitendra Singh said, when other therapies fail, Yoga could be an option or when other therapies fall short of achieving the desired targets, Yoga can help in filling the gaps.
