Mercury drops in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Feb 6 : The minimum temperature dipped across Kashmir today as Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 10.4 degree Celsius.
A Meteorological Department official said that the mercury settled at 0.6 degree Celsius against the previous night’s 1.0 degree Celsius in Srinagar.
Srinagar has minus 0.4 degree Celsius normal for this time of the year and from the last three days, the minimum temperature has stayed above sub-zero.
The mercury has consistently remained far below normal this season and on January 31, it plunged to minus 8.8 degree Celsius, the coldest January night recorded in Srinagar after 30 years.
The minimum temperature also fell in other parts of the Valley.
The mercury settled at minus 6.3 degree Celsius in Pahalgam in South Kashmir against minus 3.6 degree Celsius the previous night while Qazigund recorded a low of minus 1.5 degree Celsius against minus 0.8 degree Celsius the previous night.
Kokernag recorded a minimum of minus 2.5 degree Celsius against minus 1.3 degree Celsius the previous night.
The mercury settled at minus 1.8 degree Celsius in Kupwara against minus 0.8 degree Celsius the previous night while Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 10.4 degree Celsius against minus 9.4 degree Celsius the previous night.
The weatherman has forecast mainly dry weather for next one week during which the minimum temperatures will drop.
