MENDHAR, Jan 13: Local residents have feared possible outbreak of infectious diseases due to poor disposal of garbage in the town for the past few months.
The people have alleged that due to apathy of the Rural Development Department and Tehsil Administration, the problem is aggravating.
A spot check in the town revealed that the area is littered with piles of garbage and overflowing sewage that threaten outbreak of epidemic. The people have expressed concern over the safety of children, saying they risk contracting diseases due to poor hygiene in the area.
They alleged that due to non-lifting of garbage by the sanitation staff of the RDD Mendhar, a majority of bins kept on roads have virtually turned into garbage dumps and demanded immediate lifting of garbage from the town.
The school children play near garbage heaps and they are exposed to the health hazards, Rakesh Gupta , a local resident said.
Local shopkeepers of Mendhar market also raised concern over the issue and said that number of customers keep off due to dump of garbages lying in front of shops as there is no one to collect it. He said that one could easily gauge the effectiveness of the Municipal Corporation working and administrations’ apathy that despite lapse of more than four months, they failed to identify new dumping ground.
They said it was quite amazing that despite protest by traders and residents, RDD Mendhar and Tehsil administration had turned a blind eye towards the problem that can increase the risk of an epidemic outbreak.
Advocate Nadeem Khan -chairman of Mendhar Youth Club alleged that after spending lakhs of rupees the Tehasil administration installed dumpers in various wards of the town but of no avail. On the condition of anonymity, a RDD Mendhar official said that due to non-availability of dumping ground, they were facing this problem.
