JAMMU, Oct 20: A large number of Muslims belonging to Shia Sect took out an impressive Muharam procession here, today.
The procession was organized by Anjuman Imamia Jammu led by its president Syed Amanat Shah and Prof Sujat Ali Shah. The processions started from the house of late Mazhar Ali Shah in Janipur on the occasion of Mehandi of Shahzada Qasim the nephew of Hazrat Imam Hussain.
The mourners wailing and beating their chests were reciting Merssia in praise of Hazrat Imam Hussian and Imam Hassan who laid down their lives along with 72 companions in the battle of Karbala 1400 years back for the victory of good over evil and to spread true message of Islam to the world.
As the procession passed from Janipur it swelled into thousands. At Janipur Moulana Syed Abass Rizvi addressed the gathering and threw light on the battle of Karbala. He also highlighted the teachings of Islam which preaches brotherhood and peace.
The Shia sect Muslims drawn from different parts of State including Jammu, Poonch and Rajouri districts , erstwhile Doda district, Kashmir and Ladakh regions took part in the procession. The members of Shia Federation led by its president, Ashaq Hussian also participated in the procession.
The procession passed via New Plots, Ustad Mohalla, Kachi Chawni and various other markets before it culminated at Per Mitha late in the evening.
Police and administration had made elaborate arrangements for the Muharam procession. The Mehandi procession is taken on seventh day of Muharam every year.
To facilitate hassle free passage to Muharam procession the traffic was diverted from other routes in the city. A big contingent of police was also accompanying the procession. However a huge jam was witnessed on city roads especially on Janipur and BC road.
At New Plots the gathering was addressed by Moulana Zafar Mehdi who also threw light on battle of Karbala and sacrifices of Imam Hussian, Imam Hassan and their companions. He, while throwing light on battle of Karbala said it was a battle of truth against falsehood, good against evil and belief against the disbelief.
He said at last the Yazid the then ruler was defeated. He said at present world faces same situation which was during the time of Karbala battle 1400 years ago. Some people are misusing the flag of Islam for their personnel glorification and as true Muslims such forces are to be identified and defeated, he added.
Maintaining that truth always triumphs, he said that those who are trying to misuse Islamic Flag will be isolated as Islam is for peace, tolerance and brotherhood.
