Meenal, Soham, Deewang top in respective groups

JAMMU, Jan 31: Meenal Gupta of KV Sunjwan, Soham Kamotra of Delhi Public School and Deewang Gupta of Jodhamal School emerged winners, in the finals of Group A, B and C, matches respectively, of Brain Cup Chess Tournament, which concluded here at Ace Chess Academy, Trikuta Nagar.
The tournament, which was organized by Ace Chess Academy, saw the participation of 72 selected players from 18 different schools. The Tournament was played under knock-out system and cash prizes worth Rs 10,000 were distributed among the winners.
In Group A final, Meenal Gupta emerged winner by defeating Puneet Choudhary after a very tough fight and got cash prize of Rs 5000 and a trophy.
A highly thrilling final was played between Soham Kamotra and Arushi Kotwal in Group B where match ended in a draw after long fight of more than two hours in a highly complicated game. Finally, the winner was decided through Tie Braker Game in which Soham Kamotra of Delhi Public School won and got cash prize of Rs 3000 and a trophy.
In Group C final, Deewang Gupta of Jodhamal School registered win by defeating Divyam Gupta. He got a cash prize of Rs 2000 and a trophy.
Dr AS Bhatia, who was the chief guest on the occasion, distributed prizes and certificates among the winners.
Also present on the occasion were Atul Kumar Gupta, president, All J&K Chess Association, Taranvir Singh Gujral, chief organizing secretary, Vikas Nanda, coordinator and Vijay Choudhary, Director of the Academy. Bindu Pathania, FIDE Arbiter, was the chief Arbiter of the event.
