JAMMU, Nov 7: Mayor JMC, Chander Mohan Gupta today kick started the developmental works in Jambu Lochan park at Purani Mandi here.
Yudhvir Sethi, State spokesperson & former MoS, Priya Sethi, district president, Baldev Billoria, corporators, Anil Masoom and Narottam Sharma were also present on the occasion.
The development work was started from the pending CDF of former Minister, Priya Sethi which was delayed due to Code of Conduct etc. The development work included installation of statue , lighting and heritage effects.
Some of the works for the Jambu Lochan park which is first ever in Jammu was already started last year from the CDF of former MoS and the total estimated cost of work is around Rs 26 lakh. The development will increase footfall of tourists directly or indirectly. Jammu is a historical place and it is important to increase the footfall of tourist for Jammu.
After the former MoS Priya Sethi initiated with Mayor JMC, the work got started which was delayed by some vested interests and now it has been resumed with the collective efforts of Mayor Jammu, former MoS, corporators and the administration.
Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta, while inaugurating, said that this is the mantra of Modi that we all believe on the development and our focus always remains on development of the area.
The Mayor stressed upon the people especially Dogras to acquaint their new generations with their origin so that they too preserve this for the posterity.
Yudhvir Sethi said that the historical decision of abrogation of Article 370 by Modi Government will start development works in the Union Territory of JK and particularly at Jammu.
Referring to ancient and historical significance of the place where this statue is being raised, Yudhvir said that it is near to the most revered and famous religious spot Ram Mandir and world known Raghunath temple.
While recalling the contribution of Raja Jambu Lochan, Priya Sethi said that Jambu Lochan was a powerful local chieftain who ruled during the ninth century. During his kingdom, one day while crossing the river Tawi during a hunt he found a goat and a tiger drinking water from the same tank. He concluded that this place was so virtuous that no living creature bore enmity against another so he decided to build his capital, Jambupura, on this soil which later came to be known as Jammu, she added. She said that this bears testimony to the fact that this region is a place where people of all faiths live together in complete harmony and amity.
