JAMMU, July 17: Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Chander Mohan Gupta today conducted an extensive tour in the different areas of Shiv Nagar in Ward number 33 and kick started construction work of deep drain near M/s Choudhary Milk Diary.
Arun Gupta, Executive Engineer, Vjay Kumar Gupta, Assistant Executive Engineer, S K Bhat, Junior Engineer of Division-II and concerned contractor and prominent citizens of the Ward were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said this was the long pending demand of the locals of the area as due to this broken drain, cow dung and other wastes of the milk dairies operating in the Ward overflows on the lanes, causing unhygienic condition in the locality.
“Moreover, inhabitants of the area, especially old persons and school going children were also facing great hardships while passing through the area,” the Mayor said. He added that the covered deep drain of about 400 ft length will be executed by the Engineering wing at an estimated cost of Rs 14.67 lakh only.
Chander Mohan Gupta said that the work was delayed only due to shortage of labour and construction material during the period of lockdown as well as creation of new engineering divisions of JMC and shifting /joining of various engineering and allied staff from one division to another. He directed the concerned to expedite the work and complete it within stipulated time period.
Later, Mayor along with Kuldeep Singh, Councilor of Ward number 63 (Bantalab) visited different areas of the ward and took stock of the various development works in terms of construction of ward offices, installation of water coolers, development of water bodies, construction of left over drains & lanes, rectification of LED street lights and their installation in the remaining areas.
The Mayor was apprised by the concerned councilor that about seven old ponds have been identified for their demarcation and beautification at various localities of the Ward. Mayor directed the concerned engineering division to start the work of development of water bodies in phased manner.
