Mathura, drenched in devotion, music, and Raas, celebrated the grand opening of Shri Krishna Janam Utsav-2026.

MATHURA, Sept 2 : Shri Krishna Janam Utsav-2026 commenced on Wednesday with bhajans, kirtans, Raasleela, dance, and leela-gayan on Janmashtami.

On the first day of the three-day cultural extravaganza, the Panchajanya auditorium in Dampier Nagar reverberated with devotional chants.

Organized by the Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad, the Sri Krishna Utsav was inaugurated by lighting a lamp by Council Vice President Shailjakant Mishra, MLA Puran Prakash, Council CEO Lakshmi Nagappan, and Nishant Sharma of the Heartfulness Foundation.

On this occasion, MLA Puran Prakash, Gokul Chairman Sanjay Dixit, and Vishal Baba from the Nathdwara Temple Trust were honored by the Council's ACEO, Rajiv Pandey, and Deputy CEO, Satish, with mementos.

At the inauguration, the cultural presentations began with an aarti by Shyam Sundar Lal of Kanha Academy. This was followed by the singing of "Lala's birth greetings." A series of Krishna leelas and devotional music performances captivated the audience. The melodious tunes of bhajans resonated, while the image of Bal Krishna came alive through dance and leela-singing.

Over 100 students of the Veda Vidyalaya from Nathdwara, presented bhajans, kirtans, group dances, and poetry recitations. The students' soulful descriptions of Shrinathji's character and his leelas immersed the audience in the spirit of Krishna devotion.

Following this, a tableau of the "Mudriya Prem" Rasleela and Nandotsav was presented at the Panchjanya auditorium by the Geeta Research Institute and the Rasleela Academy, Vrindavan. In this presentation, staged in the traditional Raas style, the lively performances of the artists, the expressive dance, and the captivating staging thrilled the audience.

The story of "Mudriya Prem" was based on the loving pastimes of Shri Radha and Shri Krishna. Beginning with the loss of Radha's golden Mudriya (ring), the story depicted moments of adoration, humor, and love in a highly effective manner. This confluence of devotion, music, and Raas showcased the cultural and spiritual heritage of Mathura on the very first day of the Shri Krishna Utsav.

Chants of "Radhe-Radhe" and "Jai Shri Krishna" echoed throughout the Panchjanya auditorium. (UNI)
