JAMMU, Mar 9: The Department of Cooperatives organized a programme for distribution of cheques sanctioned by the Government in favour of Cooperative Societies of Jammu district.
Minister of State for Cooperatives and Fisheries, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion while MLA Marh, Ch Sukhnandan was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Manohar exhorted upon stake-holders to work with honesty, diligence and devotion to make all the societies profitable. He emphasized the need to imbibe the modern techniques for making the cooperative sector economically viable. He hoped that the societies would utilize the amounts judiciously and increase their business activities to generate employment.
He observed that there is huge potential in this sector and the need is to harness it proper collective professional approach. He stressed the need for bringing transparency in the working of the societies and advised the members to strictly work as per the cooperative.
Minister distributed cheques worth Rs.30.85 lakh among 50 societies of the district as financial aid in the shape of managerial subsidy and assistance managerial subsidy.
Among others Registrar Cooperative Societies, Sudarshan Sharma, Additional Registrar Cooperatives Societies, Administrator Super Bazar, Joint Registrars, Deputy Registrars, prominent citizens, field functionaries of the Cooperative Department and employees & officer bearers of the cooperatives societies of the Jammu district were present on the occasion.
The Minister also honoured NCDL award winner Bishnah Cooperative Marketing Society on the occasion. MD and Chairman of the Society, Romesh Gupta and Basant Singh Saini received the citation from the Minister.
The Minister said that the employees of the department are getting the benefits as per the 6th Pay Commission’s recommendation. The group gratuity scheme is introduced and the previous liabilities/arrears in the shape of salaries, CPF and gratuities have been cleared. The medicines are being provided to the general public at much discount than the market rates, he added.
He said that the best performing societies be given an award every year, similarly, the departmental officers who are performing their duties with utmost devotion will also be promoted by awarding them.
