Man shoots self, dies

RAJOURI, Sept 1: A middle-aged man allegedly committed suicide by using his gun at a village in Kalakote area of Rajouri district Tuesday evening.

A police official said that a suicide case has been reported from Behramrhot village in Kalakote, where a man allegedly died after using his licensed .12-bore rifle today.

The incident was reported to Police Station Kalakote through a telephone call at around 5:00 pm. The deceased has been identified as Sansar Singh, son of Sant Singh, resident of Behramrhot, Kalakote.

Soon after receiving the information, a police team reached the spot and initiated necessary legal proceedings. The body was taken into custody and shifted to CHC Kalakote, where the post-mortem examination was conducted.

After completion of the post-mortem and other legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family for the last rites.

Police said that the circumstances that led Sansar Singh to take the extreme step were not immediately known. The police is investigating all aspects of the case and questioning family members and other concerned persons to ascertain the actual reasons behind the incident.

The rifle has been taken into police custody as part of the investigation. Police said that further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident will emerge after completion of the investigation.
