Man dies, 6 of family, 5 jawans, infant among 48 test Corona +ve in Jammu

92 more COVID cases in Ladakh

JAMMU, June 20: Jammu today reported 10th Corona casualty when a 72-year-old man from Bishnah died of the virus while six members of a family, five Army, BSF, IRP and ITBP personnel, a five-year-old child and a couple were among 48 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 in Jammu region today while 92 more cases were reported in the Union Territory of Ladakh including 24 in Leh district and 68 in Kargil.
Significantly, 81 Corona patients were today treated and discharged from various COVID hospitals in Jammu region today.
Officials said a 72-year-old man from village Chak Murar in Bishnah tehsil died of Corona becoming 10th casualty of pandemic in the region. He was suffering from asthma and lung related diseases and had tested positive for the virus on June 12.
He was cremated in the village cremation ground and village Chak Murar has been contained. His family members and other close contacts have been traced for isolation and sampling.
Of 10 Corona casualties in the region, Jammu district topped the tally with seven while one each death has been reported from Rajouri, Udhampur and Doda districts.
Eleven persons reported Corona positive in Jammu district today including a couple from village Maira in Pallanwalla area of Akhnoor, 67-year-old man from RS Pura with travel history of Srinagar, 48-year-old woman from Ghou Manhasan and 25-year-old girl from Bantalab. Other positives of the district hailed from different villages and were under administrative quarantine from where they have been shifted to different COVID Hospitals.
Six members of a family hailing from village Wagan in Chambalwas area of Banihal tehsil in Ramban district, who were contacts of a positive Jammu and Kashmir Bank employee, reported positive for COVID-19. The Bank employee was living as tenant in the house of the family whose all six members have tested positive for the virus, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Ramban Dr Fareed Bhat told the Excelsior.
Of six positive family members, four were sisters and two brothers.
Eight persons tonight tested Corona positive in Rajouri district, one of them being an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) jawan, SSP Rajouri Chandan Kohli said.
All eight were travelers and under administrative quarantine, he added.
Two IRP personnel and a five-year-old child were among six persons who tested positive for COVID in Udhampur district, Deputy Commissioner Dr Piyush Singla said.
The five-year-old positive child is son of a positive woman. Other positives in the district include 24-year-old youth from village Salmadi with return history of Gurgaon and 35-year-old youth from Ramnagar.
In Kathua district, seven persons have reported positive for the virus who hailed from Lakhanpur, Kathua and Hiranagar, District Magistrate OP Bhagat said, adding that all of them have been shifted from quarantine centres to COVID hospitals. Three of them had travel history of Maharashtra and rest of New Delhi and Haryana. All of them are migrant workers.
Meanwhile, 1288 more persons today entered Jammu and Kashmir from Lakhanpur, Bhagat said.
Three persons have tested positive in Samba district including a 29-year-old BSF constable posted at BSF Headquarters Painthee, hailing from Barpeta, Assam, a 30-year-old youth from village Pargwal, Akhnoor, who was under quarantine at Thandi Khui, Vijaypur and a 30-year-old pregnant woman.
SSP Samba Shakti Pathak said all COVID positives have been hospitalized.
Four persons have tested positive for the virus in Doda district.
They included 33-year-old youth from Phagsoo Thathri with travel history of Srinagar, a 23-year-old pregnant woman from Lopa Thathri, 23-year-old youth from Goha Marmat and Army soldier with travel history of Bihar.
A 39-year-old youth from Kothian Pouni in Reasi district and a man from Surankote in Poonch district tested positive today. A traveler tested positive in Kishtwar.
Meanwhile, 81 Corona patients were today treated and discharged from different parts of Jammu region, the highest being 31 in Udhampur district, 21 Rajouri, 14 Jammu, seven Poonch, five Kathua and three Samba.
As per the official figures, Jammu region now has 1346 Corona positive cases but out of them only 597 are active as 739 have been treated and discharged while there were 10 deaths.
Meanwhile, 92 persons today tested positive for Coronavirus in the Union Territory of Ladakh including 68 in Kargil and 24 in Leh.
Ladakh now has 836 Corona positive cases, 213 in Leh and 623 in Kargil and 718 active cases, 146 in Leh and 572 in Kargil.
As many as 117 Corona patients have been treated and discharged in Ladakh while there has been one Corona casualty in the Union Territory.
