Malhar lifts Freedom Cup Volleyball title in Bani

KATHUA, July 8: Malhar defeated Bharmota by 2-1 in a thrilling final to lift the Freedom Cup Volleyball Tournament, organised by Bharat Sports Club Bani with the support of NHPC Sewa-II Power Station, Mashka at Government Higher Secondary School, Bani.

Held under the theme "No Drugs, Yes to Life," the tournament aimed to promote a drug-free lifestyle among youth through sports while encouraging discipline, teamwork and healthy competition.

The summit clash lived up to expectations as both teams displayed exceptional skill, determination and sportsmanship. After sharing the opening two sets, Malhar produced an impressive performance in the decider, exhibiting excellent teamwork, tactical discipline and resilience to clinch the championship title.

The closing ceremony was attended by General Manager (Electrical), NHPC Sewa-II Power Station, Mashka, Kalpataru Naik and Dr Rameshwar Singh, MLA Bani, as chief guests. Addressing the gathering, they highlighted the role of sports in shaping disciplined, confident and responsible youth and urged young players to strive for excellence and represent the region at the State and national levels.

Dr Rameshwar Singh appreciated the efforts of Bharat Sports Club Bani for providing a sporting platform to rural youth. He said such events help keep youngsters away from social evils, particularly drug abuse, and reiterated the Government's commitment to strengthening sports infrastructure in the region.

During the prize distribution ceremony, champions Malhar and runners-up Bharmota were presented with trophies and cash prizes. Daleep Tandon, a member of the Organising Committee of Bharat Sports Club Bani, thanked the chief guests, participating teams, referees, volunteers, supporters and sports lovers for making the tournament a success.

Among the individual award winners, Munna was declared Man of the Match, Vipan of Bharmota received the Best Defender award, Anmol was honoured with the Fair Play award, Shehbaz of Malhar won the Best Attacker award, while Javed of Bharmota was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
