UDHAMPUR, May 23: District Congress president Sumeet Magotra today visited the Jal Shakti Department office in Udhampur and raised concern over the worsening drinking water crisis and supply of contaminated water in several areas of the town.
During a meeting with the Executive Engineer (XEN), Magotra said that amid the ongoing summer season, residents were struggling for every drop of water while many localities were receiving water supply only once in three days. Questioning the department, he said that when consumers are charged bills for the entire year, they should be ensured regular supply of clean drinking water.
Department officials informed that contamination could have occurred due to leakages or sewerage-related issues. Reacting strongly, Magotra said the poorly executed sewerage project had already caused inconvenience to the public and warned that mixing of sewerage water with drinking water pipelines could expose people to serious health risks.
He demanded immediate and permanent measures to ensure clean and regular water supply to the public. Officials of the Jal Shakti Department assured that the issue would be resolved at the earliest.
