LPL 2026 to open with 500-drone spectacle at SSC Colombo

JAMMU, July 6: The sixth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026 will begin with a spectacular 500-drone light show at the opening ceremony at SSC Colombo, event rights holder IPG Group announced. The display is set to be one of the biggest live entertainment attractions staged around a cricket event in Sri Lanka.

Tickets for the tournament have been available on BookMyShow since July 1. Organisers said the opening ceremony will combine high-intensity T20 cricket with world-class entertainment, aiming to attract cricket fans, families and young audiences.

IPG Group Founder and Chairman Anil Mohan said the LPL is focused on creating a memorable fan experience beyond cricket, with the drone show reflecting the tournament’s growing stature as a regional sporting and entertainment property. He added that the opening ceremony has been designed to appeal to both traditional cricket followers and entertainment enthusiasts.

LPL Director Samantha Dodanwela said the inaugural match at SSC Colombo would be a significant moment for the tournament, and the drone display would make the occasion even more memorable. He encouraged fans and families to attend the opening ceremony and support what promises to be an exciting season. The LPL 2026 will feature five franchises, leading Sri Lankan cricketers and international T20 stars, with organisers expecting strong fan interest and another season of intense franchise rivalries.
