Locals protest for repair of wooden bridge

UDHAMPUR, Nov 20: Aggrieved over no repair or replacement of 60 year old wooden bridge in Block Chenani area, locals held a strong protest demonstration against Public Works Department (PWD) and the District administration Udhampur.
The agitating people raised slogans against the Public Works Department (PWD) and District administration. They were demanding immediate repair of the partially damaged bridge.
This wooden bridge, constructed over Tawi by PWD way back around 1959, is the only link between Chenani and Pattangarh, Dhanas Gharian, Nagulta, Tandhar, Satyalta.
However, being partially damaged and in dilapidated condition, it poses serious threat to the safety of thousands of people in 13 Panchyat, who are dependent on it. Hundreds of students of Government Degree College and Women College and ITI and others have no alternative other than to use this unsafe bridge for reaching their destinations, including SDH Chenani, District Hospital Udhampur etc.
The area is producer of vegetables in great quantity and general public have no other alternative but to cross through this damaged bridge for selling their produce.
