LMD books two industries for violating norms

UDHAMPUR, Dec 21: Legal Metrology Department, Udhampur, has booked two industries for violating the norms.
On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, the field executives of Legal Metrology Department Udhampur under the supervision of Assistant Controller Jaideep Singh Sambyal conducted surprise inspection of different markets of district and booked a number of erring traders including two industries.
In an instance at Manwal town, the sample checking of stockist of the factory TBS Onsar Chemicals Ltd was conducted. It was found that pre- packaged washing powder of brand name “Kanchan” detergents were lesser in weight by 20 gm than the declared net weight of 225 gm. The notice was issued to the management of the factory through the stockists.
In another instance at Khoon, pre-packaged mustard oil bottles of Jammu based factory were found lesser in weight by about 20 gm than the declared net weight of 910 gm (1 litre). The management of the factory pleaded for composition of the challan case and assured that in future no such complaint will be found. A penal sum of Rs 10,000 was slapped for the lapse.
The LMD is also conducting routine inspections of markets and is generating awareness on consumer rights in different localities of the district among the masses so that the interests of consumers are safeguarded.
