SRINAGAR, May 29: Rafi Ahmad Mir, Member of the State Legislative Assembly from Pahalgam called on N.N Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan here today.
Mr. Mir briefed the Governor about various important issues relating to the various ongoing development works and implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes with in the area of his constituency. The Governor and Mr. Mir also discussed arrangements being made at Pahalgam for the smooth conduct of forthcoming Shri Amarnathji Yatra -2014.
Dr. Shehnaz Ganai, Member of the Legislative Council also called on Mr. Vohra and discussed various issues relating to the socio-economic development of Rajouri-Poonch region, problems relating to the functioning of Panchayati Raj institutions in the State and need for definitive measures to empower women and other matters relating to the growth of J&K.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Jammu and Kashmir Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industries (JKJCCI), led by its President, Y.V Sharma, called on Mr Vohra.
The delegation put forth the varied difficulties faced by the traders and presented proposals to the Governor for improving the cross-LoC trade which included a complete revision of the existing list of tradeable items, constitution of committee to study real economic potential of cross-LoC trade, improving infrastructural facilities at the trading points on both the routes, regular monthly meetings at Trade Facilitation Centres, installation of whole body truck scanners, improvement of banking and telecommunication facilities and the registered traders being allowed to cross the LoC for periodic discussions with their counterparts.
The Governor assured the delegation that their difficulties will be taken up with the concerned Ministers of the Govt. of India, for boosting the cross-LoC trade. He observed that he would also address the Chief Minister to appoint a full time Nodal Officer to deal with all matters relating to cross-LoC trade.
Rakesh K. Gupta, Principal Secretary to the Governor was present on the occasion.
The delegation included Dr. Mubin Shah, former President, JKJCCI; Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad, President, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Pawan Anand, President, Cross-LoC Traders; Hilal Turkie and Tariq Khan, representatives, Cross-LoC traders of Salamabad-Chakothi; Syed Afaq Qadri and Mohammad Yusuf Tichoo, representatives of Federation Chamber of Industries, Kashmir and Nazim Wadera, representative, Kashmir Traders Manufacturers Federation.
