Ladakh gears up to house UT administration

LEH, Oct 13: With the Union Territory of Ladakh slated to come into effect from October 31st, the Ladakh Administration has geared up necessary preparations for putting in place the basic infrastructure for housing the UT administration by giving face-lift and upgrade to the existing Government buildings for offices and residential facilities for various UT level offices.
Divisional Commissioner Ladakh Saugat Biswas today with a team of officers comprising Deputy Commissioner, Leh Sachin Kumar Vaishya, Chief Engineer, R&B, Ladakh, District Superintending Engineer PWD and other concerned engineers from PHE, PDD, Mechanical Div, inspected various Government buildings and other infrastructure in Leh and took stock of the progress in upgradation of existing infrastructure for setting up of offices as well as residential accommodation for both high and middle level officers.
Office-cum-residence for the Lieutenant Governor, Advisors, Secretaries and other probable officers were earmarked tentatively.
Divisional Commissioner expressed satisfaction on the amount of work already done on earlier instructions. He instructed the Deputy Commissioner, Leh to get the finishing touches done at high speed with focus on making the facilities conducive for the severe winters.
He directed the Chief Engineer, PWD to get the work of ongoing upgradations completed within the next ten days.
Superintending Engineer, PWD, Pradeep Sharma has been designated as the nodal officer for finalising all residential and office space inventory.
While inspecting the JKTDC Club building, JKTDC Guest House, Divisional HQ building, Old Circuit house etc. today, Divisional Commissioner Saugat Biswas instructed PWD to ensure all these building to be fully equipped with all basic requirements like winter ready toilets with running water supply, heating, electricity back up, furnishing and communication facilities. Left untreated the toilets and water supply facilities stop functioning in Leh during the months of winter due to freezing temperature.
Deputy Commissioner Sachin Vaishya assured steady speed of work by the district engineers and completing all works timely, ensuring smooth commencement of official business once the Union Territory commences functioning.
