JAMMU, Apr 22: The Kashmiri Pandit Sabha (KPS) Jammu held a meeting today under the chairmanship of it’s president, K K Khosa to review the political scenario in the UT in the context of the visit of the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
While welcoming the Prime Minister on his maiden visit to Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Articles 370&35A and it’s reorganization, the members expressed their hope and desire that Narendra Modi would make huge and far reaching announcements for the welfare of it’s inhabitants including the beleaguered community of Kashmiri Pandits who have been living in exile for the past 32 years and crave for return and rehabilitation back in the land of their forefathers with honour dignity and full sense of security. This first visit assumes great importance and significance and will send positive signals to the nation that the erstwhile State of J&K is heading towards peace and normalcy after it’s complete assimilation with the nation.
Although the Sabha had expected that the Kashmiri Pandits would also get an opportunity to meet the Prime Minister in person but perhaps in view of the short duration of his visit no such meeting is in the offing, the Sabha said .
The meeting expressed the hope that in addition to announcing a long awaited robust return and rehabilitation policy for the displaced Kashmiri Pandits the Prime Minister would make suitable announcements regarding the burning issues being faced by the displaced community viz multiple problems being faced by PM package employees, economic stress being faced because of meager amount of relief which needs to be enhanced to Rs 25000 per month, announcement of effective measures for safeguarding the symbols of our culture and religion i.e. our temples and shrines including enacting a temples and shrines preservation act, announcement of at least 15000 new Government jobs for our youth and suitable announcements for ensuring political empowerment of our community by making provisions for reservation of seats in the Assembly and also in the Parliament.
