Khour, Jammu clinch Kabaddi titles; Udhampur dominates U-17 overall events

JAMMU/UDHAMPUR, May 23: Under the aegis of the Directorate of Youth Services & Sports, Inter-Zonal District Level Competitions in Kabaddi concluded at MA Stadium and Khel Gaon Nagrota, while the District Level Inter-Zonal Tournament for Boys U-14 and U-17 was inaugurated at Subash Stadium.
In Kabaddi Girls U-14, Jammu zone defeated Satwari, Gandhi Nagar beat Miran Sahib, Khour outplayed Akhnoor and Chowki Choura defeated Bhalwal in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Khour edged past Jammu, while Chowki Choura defeated Gandhi Nagar. Jammu zone secured third place after a thrilling win over Gandhi Nagar. In the final, Khour zone clinched the title by defeating Chowki Choura by 42-20.
In Kabaddi Girls U-17, Jammu zone defeated Satwari, Gandhi Nagar beat Arnia, Akhnoor outclassed Marh and Bhalwal edged past Chowki Choura in the quarterfinals. Jammu and Gandhi Nagar won their respective semifinals, while Akhnoor secured third place by defeating Bhalwal. Jammu zone lifted the title after defeating Gandhi Nagar by 39-26 in the final.
In the Cricket Boys U-17 semifinal played at Khel Gaon Nagrota, Dansal zone scored 71 runs in 15 overs against Miran Sahib, with Sumit scoring 22 and Sehaj contributing 19 runs. Dishant and Mohd Ayan claimed three wickets each for Miran Sahib. In reply, Miran Sahib chased the target comfortably with Dishant and Adarsh contributing 16 and 11 runs respectively to seal victory.
Meanwhile, the District Level Inter-Zonal Tournament at Udhampur witnessed participation of around 403 players from 11 zones in Kabaddi, Handball and Badminton events. Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur Minga Sherpa inaugurated the tournament as chief guest and emphasized the importance of sports in steering youth away from drug abuse and promoting discipline and sportsmanship.
In Badminton, Udhampur zone won both U-14 and U-17 titles, defeating Ramnagar in the finals. In Kabaddi, Chenani won the U-14 title while Udhampur clinched the U-17 title. In Handball, Jib won the U-14 category, whereas Udhampur emerged victorious in the U-17 section.
