Keep check on illegal mining using heavy machines: Mir

SRINAGAR, Mar 7: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Ghulam Ahmad Mir today urged the Govt to utilize local man power for mining and excavation of Sand, Bajri and other construction material from various Nallahs in Jammu & Kashmir.
Mir also said the use of Machinery for mining & excavation of Nallahs will be detrimental to Irrigation in J&K, bound to cause immense damages to agriculture and other farming land, which has to be addressed early before it is too late to control the situation.
JKPCC president made these comments during three days tour of Dooru Verinag. Mir met various deputations from Block Larkipora, Block Hiller Shahbad, Block Shahbad Bala and from Dooru Verinag MC and received feedback with regard to developmental works in their respective areas. Mir was also briefed about other local issues concerning people in these Blocks and elsewhere in the district.
He also received feedback on the utilization of developmental funds under Rural Development, Urban Development, DDCs & BDCs and observed that 50% of developmental funds have remained unspent.
JKPCC president termed the non-utilization of 50% developmental funds through RDD,UDD,DDCs, BDCs as unfortunate and matter of grave concern for the people of J&K and said if such a situation continues, it will be disastrous for the development of J&K, which has already received severe setback due to ugliest situation and wrong policies of the Govt.
The non-utilization of allocated funds tantamount to mismanagement and wrong approach on the part of Bureaucracy towards the people of J&K, JKPCC President rued. He said the absence of popular Govt in J&K has pushed the J&K towards darkest era wherein people are feeling isolated and disappointed, developmental scenario has received sever setbacks with the result the labour class and common of J&K are worst hit on every front.
Mir slammed the Govt for unemployment peak in J&K and said Govt claim of creating job avenues is nowhere to been seen, only tall claims and false promises won’t address the unemployment menace, Govt has to make concerted efforts to address this pressing issue, rather than indulging in paper works on this count, JKPCC President added.
Mir demanded that Govt must stop using machinery for minor mineral mining and illegal excavation of Nallahs to ensure that manual/local labour is utilized for these works and avoid violations.
