JAMMU, June 18: 19 students of KC Public School recently completed an adventure trek in Saach Pass region in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh under the aegis of International Award for Young People (IAYP) and Round Square.
As a Round Square school, KCPS arranged several outward-bound activities during an academic year to enable students to realize their potential to face challenges and widen their perspectives through experiential learning.
The first day of their adventure began with an acclimatization trek to Devi Kothi at an altitude of 8000 ft. It was a stiff climb of 6 kilometres to the apex of a wooded ridge through a dense alpine forest and then a descent of 2 kilometres to the ancient shrine located at Devi Kothi village.
After paying obeisance at the temple, the trekkers reached Government Middle School Tepa located at the end of Devi Kothi valley where they were accorded warm welcome by students and staff of the school.
KCPS has established friendly partnership with this school in a remote corner of Himachal Pradesh over the years and every year, KCPS students interact with the children of this school. The interaction this year began with a short and sweet cultural programme the local students had prepared for their visitors and concluded with students of both schools completing a painting on the wall of the school.
The second day of their trek took KCPS adventurers to Satrundi at an altitude of 11000 ft.
Owing to heavy snowfall last winter, Saach Pass was still closed to visitors, so KCPS students spent the day exploring Satrundi mainly in terms of its flora, fauna and glacial system.
The adventure group comprised of Kashish Pawar, Kanhaiya Jain, Ojas Kapur, Saumya Kapur, Aadeesh Nargotra, Archit Bhatia, Aryan Sharma, Bhoomika Mahajan, Archita Gupta, Ridhima Dogra, Agrim Kalra, Saksham Padha, Mishika Mittal, Vikhyat Gupta, Divyansh Gupta, Ansh Gupta, Utkarsh Palotra, Satvik Raina and Pranav Akshit. Teachers escorting the group were Sangeeta Jain, Rajni Dubey, Stephen Moon, Sonia Thakur and Ram Thakur.
