Saffron Park and Saffron Research Station at Pulwama Kashmir are giant steps taken towards popularising and marketing of the famous saffron of Kashmir. These entities have drawn special attention of the authorities towards this important and world famous prime agricultural produce of Kashmir used for medicines, culinary, aromatic and other purposes. That the said Research Station would be having all the state of art facilities for extraction, packing and e- auctioning is quite encouraging and would definitely boost the production of Kashmiri saffron which otherwise is facing tough competition in international markets besides braving some other problems and challenges.
It goes without saying that the prestigious GI-Tagging of the Kashmiri saffron was going to open new vistas of encouragement to producers in respect of marketing and protecting geographical factors which was going to boosting of exports and marketing surviving competitions and marketing challenges. It is quite encouraging that the UT Administration seems committed to encourage and make facilities available for increased production, marking of geographical factors for marketing etc by a token encouragement of distributing nine refrigerated vans costing over Rs, 5 crore for providing air conditioning facilities to the farmers for exporting their fragrant, tasty, medicinal and largely sought after tiny frail petals of saffron flowers.
