SRINAGAR : Jammu and Kashmir Police today paid floral tributes to a constable of Special Operation Group (SOG), who was killed in an encounter with militants in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Official sources said a wreath laying ceremony was held in Police Lines Srinagar where floral tributes were paid to the martyr Constable Manzoor Ahmad, who gave supreme sacrifice in the encounter in which two Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants were also killed.
Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid led the police and civil officers in laying the floral wreaths on the body of the martyr, they said.
“We have killed two militants in Tral encounter. One of them is a top HM commander, while the other is a Pakistani national. It was a joint operation by Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces,” DGP Vaid told reporters on the sideline of the wreath laying ceremony.
The DGP said Constable Manzoor, who is a resident of Uri in Baramulla, was an outstanding jawan of SOG. “We today paid respect to him and we have all the sympathies with the family,” he added.
Two HM militants and constable Manzoor were killed and five soldiers, including a Major, were injured in the encounter at Tral in Pulwama. (AGENCIES)
