Demanding action against Dean Students Welfare Prof Satnam for alleged beating up of their colleague on March 23, the agitating students took out protest march on the campus. They were carrying placards and raising slogans in support of their demand.
The protesting students also took out a torch light procession on the campus late in the evening and resolved to continue their struggle till action is taken against Dean Students Welfare.
On the other hand, annoyed over JU decision under agreement with the agitating students to include a student representative in the Inquiry Committee, constituted to look into March 23 incident, Convenor as well as all members of the committee submitted their resignations from the panel.
The seven-member Inquiry Committee was comprising Prof Pankaj Srivastva (Convener), Prof Monika Sethi, Prof Yash Paul Sharma, Prof Prikshit Singh Manhas, Prof Jyoti Wakhlu, Dr Satinder Kumar and Dr Vinay Thussoo (Member Secretary).
In their separate resignation letters, submitted to the university, these Members have expressed their strong resentment over the decision of including student representative in the Inquiry Committee, sources said.
A number of JU faculty members have also expressed their concern and displeasure over the university decisions and termed the same as threat to the system.
“This is first time in the history of the university when students have been made part of an enquiry committee as members. They demanded and we full filled the same without giving any thought. It means tomorrow they will demand to sit in recruitment too. And we will accept. We are stooping so low and the university statutes have no meaning for us,” opined a senior Professor on the condition of anonymity.
Another faculty member observed that the impartial character of the teachers has been negotiated by the university.
