JNU incident: BJP, others protest against ‘anti-nationals’; CPI-M alleges conspiracy

JAMMU, Feb 20: As the controversy over JNU incident refuses to die, BJP and other organizations continue to hold protest demonstrations against the alleged anti-nationals whereas Left outfits dub the legal action against students as a part of larger design of RSS to target instructions and polarize the situation.
Led by Mandal presidents  Jeet Angral and Vijay Sharma, BJP activists from  Talab Tillo Mandal and Janipur Mandal, held  protests demonstration at Canal Road and High Court Chowk, respectively. They also burnt the effigy of Congress national vice president Rahul Gandhi for his soft approach towards anti national elements.
Jeet Angral, while terming the approach of  Rahul Gandhi after JNU incident as unfortunate, said that the entire country has witnessed how the Congress leader acted during his visit to the JNU. He hoped that good sense would  prevail on Congress vice president and he would  act as a responsible and patriotic Indian.
BJP State vice president Pramodh Kapahi, State secretary Sanjay Baru and Jammu West district president Ayodhaya Gupta also condemned the approach of Rahul Gandhi.
Mahila Morcha leaders Sheela Handoo, Anju Dogra, Sangeeta Anand, Veena Gupta and Meenakshi undertook signature campaign against the anti national elements and the leaders supporting such activities. They setup the signature counter at Canal Road and got penned more than 1200 signatures.
In Samba, BJP and ABVP activists today took out a protest rally on the Jammu Pathankot highway against the controversial JNU episode and hit out Rahul Gandhi as well as Congress for supporting anti-national forces in the name of the progressive ideology.
Protesters, led by ABVP Mandal president Somdutt Verma, raised slogans against the Congress, its vice-president Rahul Gandhi and “anti-national elements” on the JNU campus. They warned  that the countrymen would not tolerate such alleged “anti-national act” in any part of the country. “Government should set an example by punishing all persons involved in raising anti-national slogans in such a manner so that no one can dare to carry such acts in future in any part of country,” the ABVP leader said.
Activists of the BJYM,  district unit, also staged a protest at Marh today demanding stern action against those allegedly involved in anti-national activities at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
Speaking on the occasion, district president BJYM, Vikas Choudhary said that  the JNU campus in recent times had become a platform for anti-national elements to air their views. He said that students and teachers, who had organized the programme, must be arrested at the earliest. He also criticized the stand taken by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi over the issue. “It is unfortunate that the Congress was trying to use the university to fulfil their political interests and instigate students against the Government,” he said and  alleged that a section of professors serving at Kuvempu University were trying to mislead students over the JNU and Rohith Vemula suicide incidents.
Jammu  Joint Secular Forum (JJSF) also held a  protest demonstration against the incident that took place at JNU and thereafter statements given by Rahul Gandhi  and Omar Abdullah.
The protesting  JJSF activists also torched effigies of Rahul Gandhi  and Omar Abdullah.  The protest was organized by GGM Science College unit of JJSF  and  led by Vikram Singh Chib and Clinton Sharma. Addressing the gathering,  Vikram Chib said  it was very unfortunate  that anti-national elements managed to organize a programme within the capital of India, where they raised anti-India and pro-Pakistan slogans openly.
BJP district unit Doda also organized a protest demonstration over the issue and torched  effigies of Congress as well as Left parties for their alleged support to anti-nationals. The protest was held at Bus Stand Doda, under the leadership of district president Advocate Manjeet Razdan. Amidst raising of slogans and carrying national as well as the party  flags, the BJP activists also  took out a march passing through main bazaars of the town.
Reports from  Udhampur said that locals of Garhi area held a protest demonstration at Jib Morh and torched an effigy of Rahul Gandhi for his alleged  support to anti-national elements.
On the other hand, CPI(M) State unit has accused the BJP-led Central Government of harassing JNU students and demanded immediate unconditional release of the  student leader Kanhaiya Kumar.
“Virtually JNU  has been put under siege and un-lawful detention of the student leader as well as  shameful acts of vandalism  at Patiala Court  have  sent shock waves across the country,” said a statement by CPI(M), here today.
“The RSS-BJP has launched a full-fledged hate campaign against the progressive forces branding almost all others except belonging to Sangh Parivar as unpatriotic. This attempt to polarize the situation is a part of larger design of RSS to target institutions of higher learning,” the statement added and demanded   immediate and unconditional release of Kanhaiya Kumar and withdrawal of sedition charges against him.
